Where are we now?

  • An established academic center for the study of osteonecrosis
  • A recognized resource to patients and physicians for information pertaining to osteonecrosis
  • Coordinator of multi-center projects
  • A website for the center is located at med.jhu.edu/avncenter
  • Maintaining a registry and database of patients with osteonecrosis
  • Positioned to help coordinate activities of ARCO in the U.S.

Where do we want to be during the next year?

  • Work with the National Osteonecrosis Foundation to provide educational materials (e.g. brochure) for patients
  • Work with existing foundations and society to increase the availability of information on osteonecrosis on the internet
  • Continue to organize multicenter studies
    • establish standardized data collection practices
  • Complete several multicenter projects to position ourselves as a reliable coordinator for possible future funding
  • Initiate and complete a Coagulation factor study with other MDs.
  • Identify a project area that would be attractive to funding by NIH or pharmaceutical companies
  • With the foundation, begin preparation for an open meeting on AVN
  • Identify possible sponsors

Where do we want to be in the next five years?

  • Establish additional outside funding sources
  • Coordination of multiple multicenter projects
  • Explore new areas in patient and physician education
